SIMATIC HMI Basic Panel 6AV6647 - Spare Parts Availability Ends in 2026

On October 1, 2016, the Siemens SIMATIC HMI Basic Panel 6AV6647  was officially declared a discontinued product. This applies to the first generation of Basic Panels, except for the Key variants KP300 and KP400.

What does the product discontinuation mean for the Basic Panel 1st Generation?

On October 1, 2016, Siemens declared the first-generation Basis Panels, including the article number 6AV6647, as discontinued products (P.M 400). During this phase, the affected panels can still be ordered as new parts, but they are no longer actively marketed. This marks the transition to the spare parts commitment, which will be guaranteed for the following ten years. However, companies should note that these panels are no longer recommended for new installations.

Which successors does Siemens offer?

Siemens recommends switching to the second-generation Basic Panels. These new models, such as the KTP400 or KTP700, offer significant advantages in terms of user-friendliness, flexibility, and performance. They feature higher display resolution, modernized user interfaces, and new functionalities that enable more efficient operation and fault diagnosis. The transition to the new generation is also simple and can be done by device replacement within the TIA Portal.

Which opportunities does collaboration with EICHLER offer?

EICHLER specializes in the repair and maintenance of discontinued automation technology. While Siemens no longer actively markets the first-generation Basic Panels, EICHLER will continue to offer repairs and spare parts supply for these models. This support will be guaranteed until the final end of the product lifecycle (P:M 500). Additionally, EICHLER can assist companies with migrating to successor models to ensure system availability even in the face of obsolescence.

What are the advantages of switching to the 2nd Generation Basic Panels?

Switching to the second generation offers numerous advantages:

  • Simplified commissioning: Backup/ Restore via USB stick
  • Higher resolution: Improved display quality through high-resolution screens
  • Intuitive operation: New control elements and scrollable lists
  • Compatibility: Installation compatibility with Siemens Comfort Panels

Companies aiming for long-term operation of their existing systems benefit from the seamless integration of the new panels into current setups. Additionally, the improved usability ensures greater efficiency in daily operations.

Legend product status:

  • P.M 300: Active marketing and regular ordering
  • P.M 400: Phase-out stage, still orderable but no longer actively marketed
  • P.M 410: Only available as a spare part
  • P.M 490: No spare parts available anymore, end of support obligation
  • P.M 500: Complete end of product lifecycle

With the product phase-out, active marketing of the Basic Panels 1st Generation comes to an end. They are still available as new parts, but no longer recommended for new applications.

Siemens guarantees spare parts availability for ten years, until 2026. In addition, Eichler offers repairs and maintenance services to ensure the long-term functionality of the panels.

From the P.M 490 milestone onwards, no spare parts are available, and support is discontinued. Companies should switch to successor products early to avoid breakdowns.

EICHLER offers comprehensive consulting services for migration, supports the integration of the new panels, and ensures that the transition to the second generation is efficient and cost-effective.

Conclusion

The product phase-out of the Siemens SIMATIC HMI Basic Panels 1st Generation marks an important milestone in their lifecycle. For companies, it offers the opportunity to continue operating their existing systems efficiently with the help of EICHLER GmbH or to transition to successor products.
