Joint project day at the Vilgertshofen retirement home

Technical knowledge is an important part of training. However, a sense of responsibility, the ability to work in a team and treating people with respect are just as important. It was precisely these experiences that the apprentices at EICHLER GmbH were able to gain during a community project day at the Vilgertshofen retirement home.

For the second year running, first-year apprentices volunteered at the care home. Under the motto ‘Giving the gift of time rogether’, they worked with the residents to organise a varied morning of creative, playful and practical activities.

Creativity, exercise and conversation

The focus of the project day was on spending time together. The trainees organised various activities in which the residents could take part according to their interests. Together, they made roses out of cotton wool pads and watercolours, played board games, and combined exercise with fun whilst playing skittles football.

It was not just about keeping everyone occupied, but above all about socialising. The trainees struck up conversations with the elderly residents, helped with the activities and experienced jus thow valuable attention, patience and an open, friendly atmosphere can be in everyday life.

An insight into everyday life in the care sector

The project day demonstrates that training at EICHLER is not just about technical qualifications. Naturally, technical knowledge, operational processes and practical work experience are central to the programme. At the same time, the training also involves taking on responsibility, adapting to new siutations and working together as a team to find solutions.

Social projects provide an important framework for this. They allow broaden one's perspective beyond one's own area of work and allow one to experience just how rewarding it can be to help others.

Positive feedback from the retirement home

The residents were also delighted by the visit and clearly enjoyed the time they spent together. The project day was therefore a valuable experience for everyone involved: for the elderly residents, for the care home staff and for the EICHLER trainees.

Learning together, growing together

Through its social project day, EICHLER emphasises that vocational training is more than just a stepping stone to a career. It is also a time when young people grow as individuals, take on responsibility and gain experience that has an impact beyond the workplace.

The initiative in Vilgerthofen has shown just how important such encounters can be. Those who give their time often get a lot in return: new experiences, appreciation and the feeling of having achieved something meaningful together.
