Siemens CM 1542-1, CP 1542-5: Product status change

On August 8, 2024, Siemens announced the phase-out of the communication modules CM 1542-1 (6GK7542-1AX00-0XE0), CM 1542-5 (6GK7542-5DX00-0XE0), and CP 1542-5 (6GK7542-5FX00-0XE0). The new successor modules are already in delivery and available immediately. This change in product status will impact the availability of both spare and new parts, which is of great importance to maintenance personnel and procurement professionals alike.

What does the phase-out of the Siemens modules mean?

The Siemens modules CM 1542-1, CM 1542-5, and CP 1542-5 will reach milestone P.M 410, meaning they will only be available as spare parts. New units will no longer be orderable from that point on, which will impact the planning and maintenance of existing systems. Since Siemens ends its spare parts commitment after ten years with milestone P-M 490, support for these products will also be discontinued at that time.

Which successors does Siemens offer?

Siemens has introduced successor models for the discontinued modules, which have already been available in parallel for over a year. These new modules offer improved performance features and are available immediately. The article numbers of the successors modules are:

  • CM 1542-1: 6GK7542-1AX10-0XE0
  • CM 1542-5: 6GK7542-5DX10-0XE0
  • CP 1542-5: 6GK7542-5FX10-0XE0

Purchasers should ensure that these new modules are considered in future projects to guarantee the smooth operation of systems.

Siemens will provide spare parts for up to ten years after milestone P.M 400. However, EICHLER will continue to offer repairs even after Siemens discontinues support.

EICHLER will offer consultations on integrating the successor modules, as well as repairs and spare parts management for the existing modules.

EICHLER will not only offer repairs for the existing modules but also assist in finding alternative solutions and retrofit options.

About the author

Since 2015, I have been working in marketing at EICHLER GmbH. Right at the start, I soldered a submitted S5 CPU module labeled “Made in Western Germany.” This experience sparked my enthusiasm for sustainability and repair in automation technology. Until 2024, I served as editor-in-chief of the customer magazine "News from maintenance", passionately reporting on people and solutions in industrial maintenance. In the new digital magazine, I now focus on Product Change Notifications (PCN) and Product Discontinuation Notifications (PDN).
