Siemens announces product phase-out (PM400) for 19 SIMOTION D assemblies

Siemens has announced the product phase-out (PM400) for the SIMOTION D motion control system as of 1 October 2025. This article outlines the key dates, implications, and recommended actions.

Key facts about the product phase-out of Siemens SIMOTION D

  • The following are affected: 19 SIMOTION D assemblies e.g. 6AU1410-2, 6AU1425-2, memory cards, CBE30-2
  • Product phase-out (PM400): from 1 October 2025
  • Product discontinuation (PM410): from 1 October 2026 - thereafter only spare parts available

  • Spare parts supply: guaranteed by Siemens for 10 years from PM400
  • EICHLER offers repair, spare parts sales, and Life Cycle Management

Which SIMOTION D assemblies are affected, and what are they used for?

The products affected by the PM400/PM410 change belong to the Siemens SIMOTION motion control system and its accessories. These include control assemblies such as SIMOTION D410-2, SIMOTION D4x5-2, associated memory cards, expansion assemblies such as CX32-2, and communication modules such as CBE30-2.

These assemblies are typically used for axis and motion control, the implementation of synchronous motion sequences, CNC functions, interpolaction, and programmed motion control in machines and systems. They form an integral part of machinery in mechanical engineering, packaging systems, production-related automation, robotics, and similar application fields.

The product phase-out affects both the hardware components and the associated SIMOTION SCOUT and SCOUT TIA engineering software, as well as the firmware versions (e.g. kernel versions v5.4 to v5.7).

This change therefore affects both maintenance engineers operating existing machines and purchasers responsible for planning spare parts or new installations.

What does the Siemens milestone PM400 (product phase-out) actually mean?

The milestone PM400 (product phase-out announcement) marks the beginning of Siemens' ten-year spare parts obligation. From this date, the product can still be ordered as a new part but is no longer actively marketed. For SIMOTION, this milestone has been set for 1 October 2025.

During the PM400 phase, new parts remain available. However, spare part prices may differ from the original new prices. In the Siemens Mall, only new prices are generally displayed; spare part prices often need to be requested directly from the Siemens contact.

Important: The ten-year spare parts guarantee begins with PM400, i.e. on 1 October 2025, and not at the time of production discontinuation. For SCOUT and SCOUT TIA, the PM400 milestone has also been set for 1 October 2025.

This makes the PM400 date a key point in planning for spare parts stocking, spare parts strategy, and migration.

When will the product discontinuation (PM410) of SIMOTION D A take place, and what are its implications?

The product discontinuation (PM410) is scheduled for 1 October 2026. From this date onwards, the affected SIMOTION D assemblies will no longer be supplied as new parts. Only spare part supply will be possible - as long as components are still available.

For operators and maintenance personnel, this specifically means:

  • The procurement of new SIMOTION D controllers or modules is no longer possible.
  • Spare parts will only be available in typical replacement quantities and to a limited extent.
  • Manufacturer availability and prices for spare parts may increase.
  • Repairs and refurbishments will remain possible - typically carried out by service providers or specialised companies.

After PM410, stricter limitations will apply to the availability and pricing of replacement materials.

These SIMOTION D assemblies are affected by the status change announced by Siemens.

Which steps should maintenance and purchasing departments take now?

  1. Inventory and requirements planning: Create inventory lists of all SIMOTION components in use. Identify which spare parts are likely to be needed in the coming years (e.g. due to wear or potential failures).
  2. Establish safety stocks: Especially before the PM400 date (1 October 2025), it is advisable to stock up on critical spare parts. After PM410, the supply of new parts will be discontinued.
  3. Repair instead of new purchase: Make use of repair services offered by providers who can repair down to component level. This helps reduce spare part costs and minimise breakdowns.
  4. Plan a migration strategy: In the long term, switching to modern control technology such as the SIMATIC T-CPU wihtin the TIA ecosystem is recommended. Migration should be initiated early to minimise operational risks.
  5. Implement life cycle monitoring: Continuously monitor Siemens life cycle announcements and subscribe early to PDN/PCN notifications.

Which services does EICHLER offer for SIMOTION D?

EICHLER is the only service provider on the market that offers repairs down to component level - with a transparent cost estimate. Customers pay only for the actual defect, not a flat rate per module.

Throgh the online shop, function-tested used and new spare parts can be obtained - often at short notice and cost-efficient. EICHLER provides a Life Cycle and Repair Management, including analysis of existing inventories, requirements planning, spare parts strategy, and migration recommendations.

For repaired or supplied spare parts, EICHLER provides up to 36 months of warranty and guarantee - exceeding what is common in many markets. This creates an attractive bridge between Siemens product obsolescence and sustainable continued use in practical applications.

After PM410, the module can only be obtained as a spare part - if available. If no suitable spare part exists, repair or module replacement are the onl remaining options. Early stocking or initiating repair arrangements is therefore essential.

Siemens guarantees spare parts for 10 years from the PM400 date (in this case, 1 October 2025). After that, this obligation ends (PM490). However, availability may vary depending on the component, particularly for discrete semiconductors.

This is possible up to the PM410 milestone - new parts can still be ordered. After PM410, the supply of new parts will be discontinued, and typically only spare part delivery or repair in exchange for the defective assembly will be possible.

Within the scope of spare parts supply, Siemens may apply increased prices, as production volumes and quantities become smaller. Prices may therefore be higher than comparable new part prices.

Not necessarily immediately, but advisable in the medium term. Switching to modern controllers offers better integration, future security, and software support. However, migration must be carefully planned and implemented in a way that ensures operational reliability.

Conclusion

With the product phase-out of Siemens SIMOTION D as of 1 October 2025 (PM400) and the product discontinuation as of 1 October 2026 (PM410) a challenging period begins for maintenance and procurement departments. By forward-looking planning, targeted spare parts stocking and the use of specialised service providers such as EICHLER, system availability can be ensured - even far beyond technology's life cycle.

Since 2015, I have been working in marketing at EICHLER GmbH. Right at the start, I soldered a submitted S5 CPU module labeled “Made in Western Germany.” This experience sparked my enthusiasm for sustainability and repair in automation technology. Until 2024, I served as editor-in-chief of the customer magazine "News from maintenance", passionately reporting on people and solutions in industrial maintenance. In the new digital magazine, I now focus on Product Change Notifications (PCN) and Product Discontinuation Notifications (PDN).
